Aimee Curl of the Seattle Weekly, who has been covering Nickelsville during the planning stages, has video of the setup Monday. "Before dawn this morning nearly 50 people pitched the tents (donated from the Girl Scouts) in a field off West Marginal Way."
From the page: "Pink may not be the usual color people associate with homelessness, but the new camp is made up of 155 pink tents. They were erected around 4 a.m. Monday, and the people who hope to make this a long term homeless encampment say they don't care about the color as long as the tents keep them warm and safe. "
The White House admits to railroading Congress. From the page: "Fratto insisted that the [bailout] plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough. "
From the Bailout Bill: "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency."
Craig Corey woke up at 3:30 Monday morning in order to set up Nickelsville. He was living in Tent City 4 until Monday. Nickelsville is his new home. Monday afternoon he was interviewed on the radio show The Conversation.
In a community meeting, our neighbors voted 21-1 to support Nickelsville. They definitely would rather have shelter on our site, than the new jail the City is proposing. They are sending a letter to the Mayor today.
